The Hard Truth

Love without truth is hypocrisy. Truth without love is brutality.

Often times we shy away from speaking the truth because it may cause a confrontation and thus discomfort. We do not want to hurt anybody’s feelings, so we stay mute and let the situation deteriorate rather than speak the truth that will set us and them free.

We tell ourselves that we are being kinder by being silent than by speaking up. So we remain in bondage to a lie and a condition that does not serve the greater good.

It is possible to speak the truth lovingly, but it takes clarity, compassion and courage.

Clarity because you need to do a great deal of inner work to make certain that your intention is not self-serving.

Compassion because you must feel compassion for the person before you can speak from love.

And it takes courage, because it is possible that the recipient of the truth may not welcome it immediately or ever.
