Cliff Stockamp
Cliff Stockamp--the founder and President of Total
Success Institute (TSI)--received his BA from Indiana
University. He was born in 1963 and spent most of his life as a child
growing up at the Stockamp Ranch, a historical landmark that
has been the site of famous political meetings that included
US Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Harry S. Truman.
“I
slept in rooms where the presidents of the most powerful
country in the world met.
And I would dream about those men, and one day of being
that type of man myself.
I believed if they could do it, so could I. I still
believe it.”
His father, a successful business owner, along with his
ambitious mother—both of whom still reside at the Stockamp
Ranch--taught him and his two brothers and sister the value of
hard work, honesty, responsibility, how to become wealthy by
providing great service, and how to never give up. “My mother gave me
spiritual roots and my father gave me common business sense. I would often get up early before school and do chores, and I
always had more after school. We
went on two vacations when I was a child growing up. I had no
social life and often felt quite alone. The farm owned us. I
grew up in a rigid fundamentalist religious organization that
had a very limited view of life. I’ve come to understand God now on my own terms
I wouldn’t trade any experiences for anything now.
It’s taken me a while to say that.”
His grandfather, Lawrence Stockamp (1913 -1977) a
certified Genius with an IQ of over 160--died broke, alone and
as an alcoholic. “All
that he had to his name was a plastic red wallet with his
social security card in it.
His death was quite sad. I saw clearly that
intelligence alone was not an insurance of success and that
most men die without really ever living.
It was a powerful
lesson for me. I
still miss him.”
Mr. Stockamp did not choose a traditional corporate
career track although he worked for several corporations.
“I disliked all
the politics, red tape, and bureaucracy that came with most
corporate cultures. The
moment I really excelled in my position, was the time that my
manager became threatened by my presence because they didn’t
want to be replaced.
That happened
several times.”
The call of entrepreneurial freedom and business
ownership called him. He
and his team of leaders, one of which was Laurel Stockamp,
built a large successful nationwide organization of several
thousand associates in a direct sales organization and was
asked to speak in front of 4000 people at a National
Convention as a rising star.
“It was one of
the highlights of my life back then. Shortly thereafter, the
Director of Marketing illegally terminated my position and
residual income and destroyed the company.
It was a valuable lesson.
I learned to never relinquish complete control of my
destiny to another person ever again and to never put anyone
on a pedestal. We are all human.”
Cliff
Stockamp has worked with several other companies in sales
related positions and always went to the top and received
numerous plaques and awards.
“I spent nearly
$50,000 over 15 years going to seminars, acquiring books and
tapes and getting training. I had a real
passion for personal development.” He
has also experienced his share of setbacks.
“Many times in the past, just when I was really on track
financially and things were going great, something would
happen to pull the rug out from underneath me. I’ve learned
that we are authoring our own lives and results.”
He
spent 1 ½ years training and traveling with a company called
SAGE to be a professional trainer and speaker. “I
feel privileged to have learned personally from some real
masters like Bill Dempsey, Victor Frye, Peggy Davenport,
Vaughn Lee Logan, Jerry Clarke, Bill Bailey, Jeff Comb, Dale
Calvert, Lucinda Basset etc.. It has been an amazing experience.”
He discovered the world of coaching from Michael a
local friend who was training to be a coach.
“He’s now
gone through three separate coach training programs over the
last 5 years now and has invested over $25,000and is still
trying to build his client base.
I just decided to launch forward and do it. We
were able to get over 1000 clients in less than 2 years.
I hired my first coach Jeff Combs and got a taste
of some real hard hitting coaching. He was good.
My next coach was Tammy Barleykamp who worked
with the Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety with Lucinda
and Dave Basset. I ended up working for them and Paul, their
director of coaching. They are incredible people. Working with
Tammy Changed my life. Actually
she probably helped me save it.
When I hired her, my wife had just filed for divorce in
May of 2001 and wanted full physical and legal custody of our
two beautiful children. I refused to let that happen. I
quickly discovered the price and the hell of a custody battle
in a cold calculating legal system with attorneys that feed
off of the pain of others and incite fear and distrust. I had
just been downsized from a lucrative sales position at the
same time. It was
the most difficult time of my life.
It turned out to be my turning point. I understand what
Nietzsche means when he said ‘what does not kill us makes us
stronger’. Some
things are worth fighting for and dying for.
My children are and were one of them. My
children’s mother is generally a very good compassionate
woman who is a fantastic mother and whom I respect in many
ways. When people get frightened, they do frightening things.
We all do.”
From there Mr. Stockamp became the director of Coaching for
Success Systems International and
helped move their coaching program forward.
It was a great opportunity and experience.
From there he started Total Success Institute.
“I wanted a company that really delivered Results to
every client, every time.
And that’s what we do. It’s amazing the results our
clients get in every class.”
He’s been called “one of the best coaches in the
world” by a number of clients.
“If you really want to grow, Cliff can help make it happen.
You may not always like what he says, but you’ll love what
he does for you.” Gavin
Allinson
Mr. Stockamp has also been called by some “the most talented man I’ve ever met.” He is an accomplished singer, writer, athlete,
entrepreneur, community supporter and is an original thinker.
“I really think
that each one of us has greatness within.
We tend to worship celebrities, speakers, world leaders
and others when we should recognize that the same atoms and
subatomic particles that are in them are within us. We simply
have to learn how to focus our energy and actions over time to
achieve nearly anything we want like they did.
I’ve also learned that 99% of us can’t do that
alone. We need others to support, encourage, hold us
accountable, and from time to time kick us in the butt to get
going. That’s
why good coaching is so valuable.”
He
lives in Indianapolis along with his two beautiful children
Brant and Sophia who are straight A students, standout
athletes and class leaders.
Mr. Stockamp gave birth to TSI in January of 2002 but
admits it had been a life long dream to “create an
environment that allowed people to really grow into their full
potential in every area of their life— at the same time.”
Mr. Stockamp has always been a
risk taker. “I’ve
jumped out of an airplane at 10,000 feet and did back flips
with the instructor. I’ve
gone hang gliding off of Dog Mountain in Seattle Washington.
I’ve gone Parasailing.
I still compete in A level racquetball and recently
came in second in a state tournament.
I am in a basketball league.
I competed in a minitriathalon in August of 2004.
I recorded 9 songs at a recording studio recently.
I am actively involved in my children’s activities.
I write poems. I
have many many interests.
Life is an incredible journey for me. It hasn’t
always been easy. But
I wouldn’t trade any step along the way. My life goal is to create the largest, most successful
coaching and training company in the world.
And what’s
exciting, is that it is happening. We have fantastic coaches
and great people on our team.
Life is really getting fun. “
